No special effects, no sex, no nudity, no violence. What were they thinking? Maybe they were thinking that some of us like to see an old fashioned movie. No, it is not in black and white, and no it is not a period piece, but in this movie people care about the people around them. These are people that are not motivated by greed or power. These people are not into sexual conquests. They go to work everyday and try to do the right thing in their job, their family and in there relations with their friends.
The story is full of
coincidence and happenstance. But the
people are so real that you can accept that these things happen. It is hard to point to a single character or
performance. This movie is blessed with
an excellent ensemble cast. Bonnie Hunt who has turned in
great performances in movies such as Jerry
Maguire, The Green Mile and Jumanji is wonderful as Megan
Dayton, best friend of Grace Briggs (Minnie Driver). Such a supporting role is nothing new to Bonnie, but what is new
is that she both co-wrote and directed Return to Me .
I
love big special effects laden blockbusters.
But every once in a while it is nice to take a break and see something
that touches your heart with emotion
not adrenalin. When you are ready for
that kind of break, go see Return to Me.
