Last
year in The Thin Red Line Nick
Nolte turned in an amazing performance as Lt. Col. Gordon Tall, an over the top
leader badly in need of a valium.
Little did I know that this was just a warm up for this years performance
in Breakfast of
Champions . This
movie is set in a small town that has a badly contaminated creek running through
it. I came to the conclusion that
instead of radioactive waste as the film would have us believe the creek must be
contaminated with LSD. This is the
only explanation I can come up with for the behavior of nearly all the characters in this
movie. If the Academy had an award
for strangest movie of the year would be my nominee. But, on second thought, a movie does not
deserve an award if it cannot at least pass the preliminary test of being
entertaining. If you liked Fear and
Loathing in Las Vegas (I didn’t) you might like Breakfast of Champions. Otherwise Bruce Willis has two other
movies this year that are great movies.
Two out of three isn’t bad.
